Rare silk and silver metal brocade was found in a French chateau with a pair of curtains and their matching passementerie trims and tassels. This fabric had been in storage since the early 1950's and is in remarkable condition. Likely dates from 1870/1890's or older. The silver metal threads are still bright and are carried on the entire back of the fabric which was an incredibly expensive process. Brocade depicts floral motifs of exotic flowers, foliage and decorative silver metal swags on a patterned ground. Pastel blues, pinks corals and greens enhance a patterned ground of flower sprigs. I have had a corset made with this fabric with spectacular results. (see picture) I have also sewn house hold pillows, runners and purses. Antique French brocade measures 45.5 inches in width with one selvage and one, 1 inch folded edge. Fabric looks almost like it was made yesterday with no fading and the silver threads and colors still bright. Pattern is repeated every 12 inches across. This is being offered by the 1/2 yard. There are 5.5 yards available in two pieces at the time of this listing. There are no returns accepted on cut fabric. All antique fabric needs to be handled with special care. This fabric has not been dry cleaned and may show some dust (mentioned for accuracy). Priced by the half yard.
